I’m a 40-something writer and mom of four teenagers and one grown-up girl.
My youngest – 13 – is affected by ASD, ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder), and ADHD.
We’ve engaged in various combinations of homeschooling, unschooling, and public schooling over my 23 years as a parent.
I struggle with depression and anxiety – and work hard not to let them rule my life!
I’m sharing parts of our journey with other parents of developmentally disabled kids because knowing you’re not alone is powerful medicine.
Why Beyond the Puzzle? Because while the puzzle is always there in the background, most of this life happens in the day-to-day – outside of the therapy and meetings and medications and strategies. The everyday is where most of the challenges lie, where the emotions catch you unaware, and the successes feed your soul.
I hope you share your thoughts, fears, dreams, and just stuff with me. It would be my honor to hear you and hold space with you.
